Eligibility

In order to participate you must meet each of these criteria:
​
a) 18 years of age or older
b) English-speaking
c) Reporting a history of sexual abuse or assault at some point in their lifetime
d) Identify as male
e) Identify as at least one of the following: gay, bisexual, transgender, attracted to men, or have sex with men. 
f) Experiencing emotional distress
g) Haven’t received any psychotherapy or formal mental health counseling in past 60 days

You must also have regular access to a web camera (mobile device acceptable) for video teleconferencing. Participants must be located within the United States or Canada only.

What kind of information will I be asked to provide? 

The online questionnaires will ask you basic demographic questions about your age, ethnicity, gender identification, and sexual orientation identification. They will also include more personal questions about the nature of your sexual abuse and a few short questions asking about anxiety and depression. We will ask you to complete each question but you can always skip questions you do not wish to answer. 

Over the phone a member of our study team will ask you some more questions about symptoms you have been experiencing. She will also be happy to answer any questions you might have!

Next Steps:

  1. You will be asked to complete a screening questionnaire online and telephone interview with one of our research team members. The call will be scheduled around your availability.
  2. If you are eligible, we will ask you to fill out questionnaires online before the group starts
  3. Next you will participate in a 6-week online peer-led group (each group is 1.5 hours, one time per week)
  4. Finally complete additional questionnaires immediately following the group, two months after the group has ended, and four months after the group has ended
Each of the six group sessions build on one another and will be scheduled around your availability. You must be willing to attend all six group sessions in order participate.
